Sodium Sulfite is a reducing agent soluble in water. Its solution in water is basic. It is feeble soluble in liquid chlorine or ammonia.

2>In Water Treatment -Oxygen scavenger in Boiler water and drilling water.

3> In Effluent water-treatment of excess chlorine & detoxification of chromic acid in electro plating industries.

4>In Pulp & Paper-In processing of semi-chemical pulp production in chemi-thermo-mechanical and kraft pulping process.

5> In Chemical industry-in manufacture of Sodium thiosulphate , sulphonating agent

6> In Detergents- manufacture of sulfosuccinates – sampoo.

7>In Dyetuffs-reducing agent in manufacure of indigo - vat dyes
